Why should I enrol in Integrate to Maximise?
Because not enough Australian kids are continuing with their Languages study, and I think Content and Language Integrated Learning is the way we can change that. We can’t expect the situation to change by doing things the same way we always have. CLIL transformed my approach to teaching Languages and I want to help other teachers experiences the results I saw for my students.
What are some of the benefits of CLIL?
More kids choosing your subject, more confident users of the language, more value placed on Languages in your school. Contact me for some sample pages of the workbook to read more.
What topics are covered in the course?
There are five modules in the course, covering topics such as CLIL frameworks, the benefits of CLIL, practical implementations of CLIL for the Australian context, how to ‘sell’ CLIL to your school leadership team and strategies for planning and delivering CLIL lessons and units.
How is the content delivered?
The content is delivered via short, snappy videos and a wide range of practical tasks (all outlined in the course workbook). There is also a variety of downloadable resources, such as lesson and unit plan templates.
How many hours of professional learning are involved in the course and which standards are addressed?
The course contributes 8 hours of professional learning, covering standards 2.1.2; 2.2.2; 2.3.2; 3.3.2 & 6.3.2.
The course videos comprise of approximately 75 mins of viewing, so the bulk of the work involved is you working towards delivering a lesson and a unit, through reading, reflecting, planning and also discussing ideas with like-minded teachers in the members-only group.
Is the course NESA registered?
No, unfortunately it is not. NESA is currently undergoing a Ministerial Review and right when I was about to submit this course for endorsement, the NSW government announced that all accreditation and endorsement processes would cease until sometime in 2021. Languages Roadshow is a NESA registered provider for our face to face events, so hopefully that provides you with some reassurance. As soon as NESA is open again for business, we will be submitting this course for endorsement.
Will I receive a certificate of completion?
Yes. Once you have completed the course work, you can contact me via email and I’ll ask you to send through you a scanned copy of your completed workbook and your lesson and unit plans.
How long will I have access to the course and the members group?
Forever! You will have lifetime access to the online content and the members-only Facebook group. One of the main drivers behind this course is creating a community for Languages teachers to feel encouraged and supported. This isn’t a ‘set and forget’ type course. Your involvement in the group and with Languages Roadshow can extend far beyond the final video.
How long will it take me to complete the program?
You could whiz through the videos in one sitting, but that’s not the intention of this course. Ideally, you will complete the workbook tasks in line with the videos and join in discussions in the Facebook group, at your own pace. If a speedy completion is a main driver, you could potentially deliver your first lesson within a week and your first unit within a month, however, there is no rush. You have lifetime access to the content and I would rather you focussed on depth of engagement with the course rather than speed.
How much access will I have to Kelly?
I will be active in the Facebook group through starting discussions and answering any questions you have. You are also welcome to email me anytime and I’ll respond as quickly as I can. I love hearing about teachers’ ideas for CLIL and the way those ideas come to life in the classroom so I’d be happy to be a sounding board for you.
Are there group discounts available?
I don’t have a formal pricing structure for groups but am more than happy to talk about this. If there is a number of teachers at your school or within your system who wish to enrol in the course, get in touch and we’ll work something out.
I already know a bit about CLIL - is this course still right for me?
Yes. The resources have been specially curated for an Australian context and presented in a highly interactive manner. There are always new approaches to consider with CLIL. Also, the opportunity to network with other teachers through the members-only group will be invaluable. If you are unsure, please contact me for some sample resources to gauge if the course is right for you.
